As a provider of energy saving upgrades, we know that being environmentally friendly is a concern that all the family share. From parents looking to reduce their carbon footprints, to children thinking of the future, getting the whole family involved is a great way to spend time together.
With sustainability on the mind, and with many of us looking for family orientated activities, we wanted to let you know about the Carshalton Environmental Festival this coming August bank holiday weekend. On Monday 23rd August, the South London area of Carshalton Park will become home to one of the UK’s biggest family friendly environmental fairs.
There’ll be food, music and all sorts of activities for the whole family to enjoy over the course of the weekend. You’ll be able to learn about the latest energy saving technologies and some other nifty tricks and tips that you can do around your house to reduce your carbon emissions. With over 150 stalls filled with crafts and local produce, you’ll be spoilt for choice of things to do.
What is the Carshalton Environmental Fair?
The Carshalton Environmental Fair is an annual fair set up to allow everyone, especially families, learn about how they can be more environmentally conscious in their day to day life. It’s not just about going green though; there’s bands, local food and even a beer tent for the adults!
With loads of stuff going on, it promises to be a fun packed day out right by the capital. Be sure to see the Ecolocal roadshow, where you’ll learn even more about energy saving technologies offer by companies such as ourselves.
You’ll learn just how simple it is to make energy saving improvements to your property, helping improve your Energy performance rating.
At Ecolocal’s environmental fair, there’s things going on that everyone can enjoy. Last year there were just over 100 stalls, and with 130 stalls now promising to showcase and sell the finest in local food, drink and crafts, it’s a great place to buy some unique gifts and some delicious organic produce.
There’s also farmers market area, local craft and jewellery, fair trade clothing and all sorts of organisations. From local community groups, car sharing initiatives and even food growing courses to help you find little ways to get a little more eco friendly.
Music and Entertainment
If it’s entertainment you’re after, the fair plays hosts to three stages. From rock and pop music by local and national bands there’s the main stage, promising some fantastic live music experiences. This is in the park’s beautiful open air amphitheatre and looks to be a great experience.
Over on the little stage you’ll see some great performing arts, from local singer songwriters to theater groups showcasing their latest talents. Situated near the middle of the festival by the bar, it’s an excellent place to relax and soak up some culture.
Last but not least is the intimate and cool music cafe. Featuring a range of jazz and folk music, the whole tent is powered by Ecolocal’s mobile solar power station. The music here is organised with the Sutton Acoustic Music Club, offering you the chance to hear some great songs over a cup of tea and slice of cake. A great area of the fair to take a break from all the excitement.
As well as all of these great parts of the fair, you can also listen to guest speakers talking about the present and future state of environmental concerns.
It’s not just speakers, as there’s a series of interactive workshops that you and your children can get stuck into. From learning hints and tips on how to grow plants and vegetables, or being introduced to bee keeping and even making a grass hedgehog.
Be sure to visit the travelling Energy Road Show, as mentioned before, which is situated near the music cafe. You’ll be given all sorts of useful information about heating your home and improving it with all sorts of energy saving gadgets and improvements. Free loft insulation, insulating different types of wall, renewable energy and more are all things to hear about with the roadshow.
How to get to the Fair
Getting there couldn’t be easier, as London is easily accessible from nearly everywhere in the country from trains, buses or car. Be warned though, there is no parking for fair visitors, but a free bus service that goes all through the London Borough of Sutton. Nearby train stations are a 10-20 minute walk, so be sure to plan ahead and make sure you know where to go!
